Custom Framed Poster Design for a Personal Gift

Case study for a private client commissioning a custom framed poster as a gift.

Framed black-and-white 24x30 inch poster reading 'SÓC CATALÀ' over a photo of a Catalan flag at dusk, mocked up on a textured wall, print design by Motakabbir Hossan
The Challenge

What the client needed.

A private client had an existing black-and-white travel poster design they wanted recreated as a personalized piece, print-ready for a 24×30in frame, with a same-day turnaround. The layout had to be built before any of the real content existed — the client's own photo and the full block of custom text arrived only after work was already underway — and kept changing in place from there: the headline was rewritten twice, two supporting labels were swapped for different Catalan phrases, and two paid display fonts had to match named weights exactly, not just look close. All of it on a piece being printed large enough that any misalignment or off-color text would be obvious from across the room.

Constraints

What had to be true in every graphic.

  • Fixed 24×30in (61×76.2cm) print dimensions with 0.25in bleed, plus separate visible trim marks so the print shop had an unambiguous cut line
  • Two paid Adobe Fonts, Eixample Dip and Arboria, matched to the client's exact named weights — not just a similar-looking sans-serif
  • A pure white background with every line of text in true black — no off-black or dark-gray creeping into any text layer
  • The headline copy still evolving after the layout was underway — CATALONIA became CATALUNYA and then SÓC CATALÀ, while CTL became CAT and Spain became PAÏSOS CATALANS — without breaking the layout each time
  • Same-day delivery, with the client's own photo and the full copy both landing only after the project was already in motion
The Approach

How it was built.

  • Built the full 24×30in layout the same night the offer was accepted — guides, 0.25in bleed, and dummy text standing in for the copy — so the structure was already solved before a single real word or photo existed to drop into it.
  • Sourced and applied the two exact fonts the client called out, Eixample Dip and Arboria, matching each named weight as it was requested — Bold for the headline, Regular and later Light for the body, Black and Book for the two supporting labels.
  • When "CAT" came back reading as the wrong weight, overlaid the client's own reference screenshot directly on the live artwork and matched stroke thickness point-for-point instead of guessing at "a bit bolder."
  • Turned around every structural note inside the same working session — background forced to pure white, every text layer reset to true black, line height opened up between the closing quote and its attribution, and the two header labels realigned onto one line.
  • Added distinct, visible trim marks once the client clarified that the built-in bleed alone wasn't what the print shop needed to see, then delivered the final piece as a high-resolution print-ready PDF plus the native Illustrator file.
The Final Graphics

The Outcome

Where it landed.

Approved the same session the last font fix went out, and sent straight to the printer that morning. The client had it framed, sent back a photo of the finished piece on the wall, and closed out the contract with five-star feedback and a bonus on top of the agreed rate — confirmation that "exactly as I wanted" held from a rough dummy-text layout all the way through to a large-format print with no visible flaws.

Client Review

"Motakabbir was great to work with. I had a 24" × 30" design in mind that I framed and gave as a gift. Motakabbir did a fantastic job designing: taking direction to execute exactly as I wanted then adding the trim marks and everything needed for the printer. Project turned out SO WELL and on time. I was very specific about what exactly I needed and Motakabbir did everything possible to accommodate — they were very patient with me. Highly recommend."
